March 2025 Site Update

Hello!

Today marks the day that I've finally pushed my personal website for the world to see! (Though, it's technically been up since Feburary, it was just super barebones until now haha).

I've been working on this thing since like 2023, but I've finally managed to pull myself together to finish it, and everything has turned out quite nicely!
I went through a lot of firsts in making this project—it was my first time using any kind of tool to generate my site rather than writing the whole thing by hand, and it was also my first time using Javascript in any major capacity. It was an interesting learning experience, and I had a lot of fun!

Some Highlights:

Now the real question is, why go to all the effort?

As explained in an earlier blog post of mine, I don't use social media, and I'm all the happier for it. However, that makes it difficult for me to share my thoughts/the things I have made with the people who would like to see them! In this increasingly online world, I still need to have some kind of online presence in order to stay social.

The idea is, if somebody asks for my socials, instead of giving them a link to an Instagram account that I never log into or whatever, I can instead give them the link to this website! birdart.online is something that I'm both proud of and can be sure will represent me in a way I am comfortable with. I think it's a fairly suitable alternative! In the future, I might like to set some things up such that my socials are automatically updated when I post here, but for now, I'm satisfied with this.

Speaking of "Would like to do in the future," here's a bit of a roadmap for what I want to do next!

  • Actual contact page (I will probably create a new e-mail address, or maybe I'll figure out something like whatever Bill Wurtz has going on?)
  • More features for the music player—namely a volume control, play/pause button, and the ability to go to the next track once the current one has finished.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you soon!
